It’s that time of the year again! Franchises are narrowing down their options and trying to close out best possible deals for them as we move closer to the IPL 2027 auction. It is going to be the last
mini-auction of the current cycle before next year’s mega auction. The action is set to take place on December 16 in Goa, and the retention deadline has been delayed to November 17. It would allow teams more time to decide players they want to retain from last season.
Negotiations have already begun between teams and their players. In a latest and a rather shocking move, the Chennai Super Kings and SunRisers Hyderabad pulled off a four-player trade that sent bowling superpowers Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis to the Kavya Maran-owned franchise. On the other hand, Liam Livingstone and Jack Edwards have moved to the opposite side.
While the trade market starts to heat up, several possible trade speculations have been doing rounds.

Marquee players demand INR 40 Crore to be retained by franchises ahead of IPL 2027 season
As per a latest report from Cricbuzz, some top-tier players have been demanding a price as high as INR 40 crore to be retained by the franchise. As per the source, it has been conveyed to their respective franchises that they are willing to stay with the team only if the amount is paid. The report further suggests that more players could opt for the route if they feel they have a high chance of attracting better bids at the auction.
The names of the players remain unknown, but it is a sum that has never been heard of at the auction. Rishabh Pant remains the highest-paid player after he was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 Crore at the IPL 2025 auction.
Moreover, the total purse available to a team is Rs 120 crore, and as per reports, it may increase to around Rs 150 crore for next year’s mega auction.
