Lionel Messi produced another stunning moment of magic in Major League Soccer as the Inter Miami captain scored a sensational free-kick against Columbus Crew on Sunday night.
With Inter Miami trailing 1-0,
Messi stepped up in the 33rd minute and produced a finish that once again showcased his extraordinary quality. From a tight angle on the right side of the pitch, the Argentine curled a left-footed free-kick over the outstretched hand of goalkeeper Patrick Schulte and into the far corner.

The difficulty of the attempt made the goal even more spectacular. What appeared to be a position from which a cross would have been the obvious option turned into another memorable Messi goal, as he found the perfect trajectory to beat the goalkeeper and restore parity for Inter Miami.
The goal took Messi’s tally to 21 goals in the 2026 MLS regular season, extending his lead in the race for the Golden Boot. It was also his 12th direct free-kick goal for Inter Miami, further adding to his remarkable record from set pieces.
Messi’s latest strike also came months after he reached another historic milestone by scoring his 900th career goal in March. He has continued to add to that tally since, with reports putting his career total at 931 following Sunday’s goal.
At 39, Messi continues to produce moments that have defined his career for more than two decades. His ability to find the net from seemingly impossible positions remains one of the most recognisable features of his game.
However, the spectacular equaliser was not enough to earn Inter Miami points. Columbus Crew eventually secured a 2-1 victory after Jamal Thiaré scored deep into stoppage time.
