The Indian ODI skipper Shubman Gill made an unbeaten 84 from 66 balls to secure the run chase for India. Gill stepped up against Afghanistan with some excellent shot-making and decisive boundaries. Even
though wickets fell at the other end, Gill did not stop his charge as he just kept on attacking the Afghanistan bowlers. His intent didn’t change a bit as he scored 11 fours and 2 sixes throughout his knock. He has been an unstoppable force in One-Day cricket and he seems to be scoring runs for fun.
As the game was affected by rain, the game was reduced to 25 overs per side and Afghanistan had set a decent total of 194 to chase for India. Shubman Gill did not waste much time early on in the powerplay as he was timing the ball perfectly. His partnership along with Rohit Sharma was also a fine one as they put up 46-runs for the first wicket in 6 overs. Ishan Kishan played an explosive knock of 34 off just 22 balls and Gill supported him perfectly from the other end as he was rotating the strike. India won the match by 7 wickets with 13 balls left and they have gone 1-0 up in the ODI series against Afghanistan.

Gill becomes fastest Indian to reach 3,000 runs in ODI cricket
Shubman Gill has achieved a massive milestone by becoming the fastest Indian and 2nd fastest to ever reach the 3,000 run-mark in ODI cricket. Gill has been one of the stalwart batters for India in recent times as he has been a solid opener for the side. In his ODI career, he has scored 3,066 runs from 61 games at an average of 55.7. His partnership along with Rohit Sharma for the 1st wicket has been crucial to India’s success as Rohit plays the role of an aggressor while Gill plays the supporting hand.

During the second innings of the game, Shubman Gill scored a match-winning knock to keep India in a comfortable position in the run-chase. Rohit Sharma’s dismissal was an unfortunate one but it did not bother India much as Ishan Kishan scored a stunning cameo to put India well ahead in the game. Shreyas Iyer couldn’t contribute much in the game as he was dismissed for a very poor shot. KL Rahul played a fine knock of 39 off just 19 balls and he landed the final blow in the back-end of the innings with an exciting flurry of boundaries.
India will be delighted with the start they have gotten in the ODI series against Afghanistan and they will be looking for a whitewash. Shubman Gill and his men have led a formidable charge in the first game of the series and they will be hopeful of carrying the momentum in the coming games.
