The fielding of the Punjab Kings has probably been their biggest concern and that has been reflected in today’s game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad as well. The approach of the Sunrisers is one that is fearless
and they will take on every ball that they face. While facing such a team you have to take your chances and Shashank Singh has put down the catch of Heinrich Klaasen. Yuzvendra Chahal was in shock as it was an easy catch straight into the hands of Shashank but he couldn’t hold on to it. Later on, Lockie Ferguson dropped the chance of Ishan Kishan and once again, it came off the bowling of Chahal. The misery of the table toppers in the field seems to have no end as their fielders are disappointing the bowlers.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been off to an explosive start against the Punjab Kings as Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave them a solid start. They were confident right from ball one and even after the departure of Abhishek Sharma, there was no shift in the approach. Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen have carried on the momentum generated by the openers and they could be on their way to yet another massive total.
Make it seven dropped catches off Yuzvendra Chahal's bowling. 😮 This time, it's Lockie Ferguson, giving Ishan Kishan another lucky break.#IPL2026 #SRHvsPBKS pic.twitter.com/URJ1Do78hC

Costly misses from Shashank Singh and Lockie Ferguson expose PBKS’ biggest weakness
The bowling of the Punjab Kings have been under the radar this season as everybody takes note of some of the weaker areas of the best teams in the tournament. They have proven to be expensive and they lack the ability to create breakthroughs with quick wickets. However, some of their failure this season could be attributed to the poor fielding of the side. Shashank Singh has been the culprit in most of the occasions as he has put down plenty and even attracted livid reactions from Ricky Ponting in the dugout.
Today, the Punjab Kings would have set their eyes on getting the Sunrisers Hyderabad to settle on a decent score to chase down. They usually have flat tracks and in such tracks, there is very little for the bowlers to do and the fielders should be on top of their game. Yuzvendra Chahal was introduced into the attack despite having the match-up with the left hander but he managed to create an opportunity against Klaasen. Heinrich Klaasen didn’t get the timing right and it went straight to Shashank Singh, who made a complete mess of it. Later on, it was Lockie Ferguson who once again dropped a catch for the side off the bowling of Chahal and this time, it was the chance of Ishan Kishan. Both of them went on to score plenty more boundaries and only time will tell, if these dropped chances have cost the match for the side.
If there is one primary area for improvement in the Punjab Kings side, then it would be their fielding. Shashank Singh will need to improve his fielding under the lights as he has put down way too many in the season and the fielders will have to offer enough support for the bowlers in such difficult conditions.
