The wait is finally over for fans who were wanting to see the latest cricketing sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi donning his senior India jersey. Sooryavanshi became India’s youngest debutant as he was handed
his T20I cap by vice captain Tilak Varma. Notably, Shreyas Iyer-led Men in Blue are set to lock horns with England in the second of the five-game series at Old Trafford Cricket Ground. Sooryavanshi, who became the youngest Indian to receive a maiden call up for the national side before the Ireland series, was set to make his debut.
While the young lad didn’t get a chance back in the Ireland series as well as during the first game of the England series, has now finally got a chance to play for the side on Saturday, July 4. With this, he became the youngest international debutant at the age of 15 years and 99 days, breaking the long-standing record of legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi replaces Sanju Samson in Playing XI
India skipper Shreyas Iyer revealed that Sooryavanshi has been named in the playing XI replacing Sanju Samson. After recording a historic campaign in the IPL 2026, Sooryavanshi was named in the Tri Nation Series. Though he had to face a few initial setbacks, the Bihar cricketer was quick to get into momentum and deliver some notable performances. On winning the toss, India opted for bat first and Iyer heaped praise on Sooryavanshi hoping for his memorable international debut.
He said, “We've got one change. Vaibhav comes in for Sanju. Absolutely... you've seen him in last few months, the way he's been batting. Not really. I feel that he completely deserves to be in the squad. He's someone who doesn't take pressure at all. Has an unflinching nature. He's very well aware of what's going to come in these coming matches. The way he bats in the nets and takes on the bowlers, shows what kind of player he is.”
