After India wrapped up their campaign against New Zealand with two successive losses, yet a 3-2 win in the five-game T20I series, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir talked to the media and opened up on various
aspects. The Men in Blue had dominated their Kiwi counterparts in the first three games; however, they lost their momentum and went on to record two back-to-back defeats, in the fourth and the fifth T20I.
As Gambhir talked to the media on Sunday after the game, he reflected on his fearless ideology. “I don’t fear anything. There is no word like fear in my dictionary, directory, and ideology,” Gambhir said. He went on to say, “We are professionals and I’ve believed that there are no excuses. Whatever we get, we will try and get the best out of it.”
Question – Despite winning the series, how is the team viewing the consecutive losses and the pressure of overseas conditions?
Gautam Gambhir’s: “The word ‘fear’ does not exist in my dictionary. When things get tough, I am human too and mental fatigue happens, but I am strong enough to face every challenge head-on.”

“It’s an incredible effort because the boys got only one day to prepare”: Gautam Gambhir
Speaking after the seven-wicket loss of the Shreyas Iyer-led side in the final T20I, Gambhir hailed the team’s effort despite getting less time to prepare. “Look, first of all, obviously it’s an incredible effort because the boys got only one day to prepare,” he said.
“They arrived on the 20th (of October), we practiced on the 21st… different conditions, different weather conditions, different dimensions, playing against a quality side like New Zealand in their own backyard with the amount of experience they had in T20 cricket, plus most of the boys were touring New Zealand for the first time.”
“Boys can be extremely proud of their efforts, especially when you hardly got any time to prepare,” he added. The former India batter also talked about his own workload management as a head coach considering his hectic schedule. “I know it’s tough but I’m enjoying it because not many people get that opportunity to probably wear an India jersey again,” Gambhir said.
