With the Indian government taking several stringent actions in the recent times, after former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), two more former cricketers
have emerged to have being called up. Former Indian all-rounder and World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh, along with middle-order batter Robin Uthappa have been the two new names in the long list.
The former Indian cricketers along with Bollywood celebrity Sonu Sood are the latest to be summoned by the ED for questioning over the endorsement of illegal betting apps. The trio have been given a date next week. While Uthappa has been called in Monday, September 22, Yuvraj Singh will appear in front of the ED on Tuesday, September 23, followed by Sonu Sood given September 24.
Uthappa & Yuvraj join long-list of celebrated personality in illegal betting app case
The cricket duo has joined Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, as well as Urvashi Rautela and Trinamool MP Mimi Chakraborty. All these renowned personalities have been linked up in the money laundering and tax evasion case of the 1xBet app. On the other hand, ED is also investigating multiple betting platforms and questioning on the ole of celebrities in promoting it.
According to officials, the 1xBet case involves alleged violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), with the probe focusing on financial transactions linked to the betting platform, which is banned in India. “Investigators believe promotional activities and financial trails tied to celebrities endorsing the brand could be crucial in establishing the app’s money flow,” a source said, as quoted by The Indian Express.
