On Tuesday, October 14, the Indian cricket registered a comfortable seven-wicket win over West Indies in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. With the win, Team India claimed a comfortable 2-0
clean sweep in what was Shubman Gill’s first Test series win at home as the skipper of the side. The victory also helped India secure the third place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table, having won four of the seven Tests played so far.
After India’s triumph, head coach Gautam Gambhir hailed the team’s efforts at the post-match press conference. Following it, the former Indian cricketer turned head coach also walked to the West Indies dressing room to uplift them after their 0-2 drubbing which saw them put a great fightback in the second innings.

Walking to the Windies dressing room, Gambhir hailed every player who showed instinct. He began, “I think the way you played in the second innings of this Test match is probably the template that can truly take West Indies cricket forward—the way you all fought, from 1 to 11. For me, in a team sport, the most important thing is that every contribution needs to be appreciated.”
“It's easy sometimes to focus only on the centuries and five-wicket hauls. But the players who are scoring hundreds and taking five-fors usually don’t need as much support from the coaches or support staff. It’s the small contributions that really make the team. Big contributions only make the headlines,” Gambhir further added in a video shared by BCCI.

Gambhir further added that world cricket need West Indies cricket and the good foundation of the Test team begins. “And lastly, guys, I want to say one thing, something I’ve always believed in West Indies cricket doesn’t need world cricket. World cricket needs West Indies cricket. Remember that. A strong, solid Test team is the foundation of a great cricketing nation. It’s not the other way around. So when you wear that jersey, understand that you have the opportunity to do something truly special, it's something that not many players in the T20 circuit will ever get the chance to do,” he added.
