India scripted history on Tuesday, September 22 by becoming the first team to register 200 wins in T20 internationals. The Men in Blue were up against Japan in a one-off thriller where the side, under
the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, pulled off a narrow two-run win over their counterparts to achieve the feat. The highly-anticipated game, organized under the banner of Suzuki Cup, saw exemplary display of bowling skills from the hosts, who were playing their first game against a full-member side.

After choosing to bat first, fireworks were expected from Shreyas Iyer and Co., who were coming off a 3-0 series sweep over Afghanistan in their most-recent games. However, it was the spinners, who dominated the game right from the first ball. All Indian batters including in form Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson couldn’t do much, while skipper Iyer finished with top score of 16 runs. The guests were eventually restricted to just 32 runs with the loss of four wickets, their lowest total against an associate nation.
In the second innings, while it seemed that Japan was on the edge of creating history, the visiting side made a comeback in the game. Washington Sundar chipped in a couple of wickets to halt Japan’s momentum, while Axar Patel kept his spell extremely tight and conceded just seven runs to help his team pull off a close two-run win. With this, the three-time T20 World Champions scripted history by recording a historic 200th win.

The Men in Blue are now the first team to have recorded their 200 wins in the shortest international format, in 291 games. Their first 50 wins came in 83 games, whereas the team took 72 games to record the next fifty and overall 100 wins. The number then went to 70 matches as they acclaimed their 150th victory, with 66 games to win the next 50 games.
