Lamine Yamal was still a teenager when football started expecting the impossible from him. Barcelona handed him his senior debut in April 2023, when he was only 15 years and 291 days old. He quickly became
the youngest player in the club’s history to appear for the first team. That was only the beginning and at 16, he became the youngest scorer in La Liga history. A year later, he helped Spain win Euro 2024 and was named the tournament’s Young Player of the Tournament.

By 19, Yamal was no longer simply Barcelona’s exciting young talent. He had become one of the biggest names in football and his 2025-26 season showed why he was rated highly. The Spanish star scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists in La Liga, helping Barcelona retain the title. He was named La Liga’s Player of the Season. Across all competitions, he finished the season with 24 goals and 17 assists in 45 appearances.
Lamine Yamal’s incredible rise with records, goals and a Ballon d’Or dream
Lamine Yamal scored his first World Cup goal against Saudi Arabia in Spain’s 4-0 victory, doing so at 18 years and 343 days. That made him the second-youngest player to score at a World Cup, behind Pele. He was now doing things that players twice his age had struggled to achieve. His Champions League record tells another part of the story. The Spaniard became the youngest player to start a Champions League match, the youngest to score and assist in the same game.
He was also the youngest scorer in a Champions League semi-final and the youngest Barcelona player to reach 100 competitive appearances. At 19, he is already producing at a remarkable rate for Barcelona, with 10 goals and 10 assists in 12 league and European appearances listed for the 2026-27 season so far. There is also the Ballon d’Or conversation and Yamal finished second in the 2025 voting, and after another outstanding season with Barcelona and Spain, he entered the 2026 race as one of its leading young contenders.
