KL Rahul had made up his mind to leave the franchise after some visible disagreements with the LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka, following the side’s 10-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 season. The Delhi Capitals had picked up KL Rahul in the IPL 2025 auction, and he played some match-winning knocks, including a fine knock against the Lucknow Super Giants, in which he finished the match with a six. The rivalry had begun from that match when KL Rahul didn’t pay heed to Sanjiv Goenka’s words while exchanging a handshake after the match.
Once again in this game, KL Rahul was all set to play another match-winning knock against his former side, but he was dismissed off the very first ball of the innings by Mohammed Shami. He was disappointed as he was playing T20 cricket after almost a year and couldn't get off the mark. Then the LSG admin posted a picture of the staircase that led to the dressing room, with a caption “IYKYK”, mocking their former captain. After the match, the DC admin posted the same picture and wrote the results of the previous five encounters between the sides as DC extended their winning streak over the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2026 season as well.

The Delhi Capitals won the match by 8 wickets in a very comfortable manner, and they didn’t seem to break a sweat.
