East Zone skipper Ishan Kishan earned praises and appreciation by fans and Indian cricket experts for his brilliant knock against South Zone. Both teams are locking horns in an exciting Duleep Trophy 2026
Final at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. After opting to bat first, the East Zone finished the opening day at a total of 385-4 with four batters playing impressive knocks. While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi came up with a quickfire 44, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Shikhar Mohan made attractive fifties, skipper Kishan finished the day on 111*.
Soon after the beginning of Day 2, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter crossed his highest score of Duleep Trophy at 112 before turning his century into an incredible double century post lunch, his maiden FC double ton. With this, he became the first East Zone batter since Saba Karim in 1995 to score 200 in the Duleep Trophy. The 28-year-old continued to do magic with the bat and went on to hit a brilliant 250 off 300 balls to take the East Zone score post 600-run mark. The Bihar-native eventually walked off the ground after retiring hurt. Considering he had been batting for so long in hot and humid conditions of Chennai, fatigue had set in and was taken off the ground.
Nevertheless, Kishan’s knock helped the side establish their dominance over the counterparts and it goes without saying that South Zone would find it difficult to chase the humongous total.
