On Sunday, September 28, the Indian cricket team continued their dominating run in the shortest format of the game, defending the Asia Cup title. Coming into the final unbeaten, the Suryakumar Yadav-led
side reigned supreme over arch-rivals Pakistan, handing them their third defeat in the recently-concluded tournament and lifting record ninth Asia Cup title.
While the match had its own ebbs and flows, the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav too was marred with several controversies. Amidst this was one pertaining to the Indian team being denied of the trophy and winners’ medals. It is to be noted that prior to the presentation ceremony, the Indian team informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) of not collecting the prize from Mohsin Naqvi. But the latter rejected it, going against the procedure and later walked away with the trophy and medals, marring new controversy.

Taking the stage after the post-match presentation ceremony, the Indian team were denied of the trophy as reports claimed that the ACC President took it away with him to the hotel. Seeing this, Suryakumar Yadav was inquired of the same at the post-match presser to which he replied, "This is something I have never seen in all my years of playing and following cricket. A champion team was denied a trophy, and it was a hard-earned one. It was not easy. We played two strong games on back-to-back days. I felt we truly deserved it. I do not want to say much more.”

He added, "If you ask me about trophies, I have 14 of them in my dressing room. The players and the support staff, they are the real trophies. I have been a big admirer of them throughout this Asia Cup journey. Those are the real memories I am taking back, and they will stay with me forever."
Furthermore, the BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed of the same in an address to ANI and also hinted on taking the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) with the meeting scheduled to be held in November.
