Another person asked “Do you want me to get you an Uber to the nets, bro? It’s probably for the best. Probably for the best, bro. We are losing two-nil,” He was also heard saying, “I am literally nobody” and hurling a few words. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has now opened an investigation into the incident. The video surfaced just hours after managing director Rob Key said that an investigation will be conducted into the team’s trip to Noosa.
ECB released a statement saying “We are aware of content circulating on social media. We have high expectations for behaviour, accepting that players are often under intense levels of scrutiny, with established processes that we follow when conduct falls below expectations. We also support players that need assistance. We will not comment further at this stage while we establish the facts,” the statement read.
This is not the first time that Duckett has been involved in such an incident during the Ashes series. Eight years back, when he was touring with the England Lions squad, the batter was sent back home after being imposed a fine and facing suspension by the ECB for pouring a drink over fast bowler James Anderson in the Avenue Bar in Perth.
Despite being one of England’s key batters in the Test format, Ben Duckett has struggled in the ongoing Ashes, where he managed just 97 runs in three games at an average of 16.16, Australia claimed the Ashes in just 11 days, with England losing all three Tests so far. The fourth Test will be played on December 26.
