Former Team India spinnerRavichandran Ashwin hailed pacer Mohammed Siraj’s effort against the West Indies in the second Test, played in Delhi. Ashwin stressed on Siraj’s effort as the speedster strove
hard to get wickets on difficult turf for seamers. In India’s seven-wicket win, turners chipped in with 13 wickets while Siraj’s three hunts were also important as the pitch offered assistance to spinners. Siraj was seen putting rigorous efforts to pick up wickets and noting that Ashwin couldn’t resist himself from praising the 31-year-old speedster.
“I want to compliment Mohammed Siraj. On this wicket, there wasn’t much help, but Siraj bent his back and kept coming again and again. Bumrah did get wickets in the end, but it’s Siraj’s effort that needs to be applauded. Just like his bowling in England, he put efforts in these conditions as well. First-class cricket can be tough for fast bowlers, especially if you bowl on day four, fast bowlers never recover in a three-day break. Still, Siraj kept going, using innovative fields, so he deserves credit,” remarked Ashwin on his YouTube channel.
Kuldeep Yadav should be given more liberty
Ashwin has advised the team management to give more freedom to Kuldeep Yadav, who looked sensational with the ball. “Kuldeep will get a wicket in one spell and he will be able to open it up. Even in the second innings he did that. He should be given that freedom. But the others should be able to compliment Kuldeep in a way that he can still continue being that attacking option,” said Ashwin on Kuldeep.
Kuldeep registered 5/82 and 3/104 figures and became the Player of the Match in India’s one-sided win. Both Siraj and Kuldeep will be next seen in action against Australia in the ODI series, set to start from October 19.
