Chennai Super Kings won’t have a batting coach for the IPL 2027 season. The five-time winning team endured three disappointing seasons, where they failed to make it to the playoffs. However, ahead of the 2027 season,
the Yellow Army hit the reset button and the entire coaching staff underwent major overhaul. Earlier, they let go of their head coach Stephen Fleming after an 18-year-long association.
They replaced him with former India star Zaheer Khan at the helm of the coaching staff. Apart from him, the Super Kings parted ways with batting coach Michael Hussey, bowling coach Eric Simons and assistant coach Rajiv Kumar, along with Greg King and Tommy Simsek. However, the team has found replacements for each of them, but haven’t hired any batting coach.
Speaking about the same, CSK CEO Kasi Visvanathan said that the team will be without a batting coach in the upcoming season. He further said that they would want to use the newly-hired Assistant Coach Gareth Batty as their batting mentor.

CSK to enter IPL 2027 without batting coach
“Our coaching staff is complete. Whoever we announced yesterday will form our backroom team; we will not have a batting coach,” Viswanathan said while speaking to Sportstar. “It’s a decision taken by Zaheer (on not having a batting coach). But yes, we are exploring the option of using Batty as a batting mentor. Discussions are ongoing,” he added.
Notably, former players Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina were among the former franchise players who were reportedly in contention to take over the role. However, after Kasi’s statement, those rumours have been put to rest.
In the latest coaching overhaul, CSK have signed Mohit Sharma as bowling coach, with Albie Morkel and Gareth Batty joining in as assistant coaches. Apart from them, only Sridharan Sriram and James Foster, who have been the assistant coach and fielding coach, respectively, have been retained by the side.
