India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to feature in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, with the team management keen to manage his workload and prepare him for the red-ball leg
of the tour.
According to reports, Bumrah is completely fit, but the Indian management wants him to remain focused on Test cricket rather than risk increasing his workload across formats. The decision reflects India’s long-term planning for one of their most important fast bowlers.
Bumrah is expected to report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for a routine check before featuring in the third India A fixture ahead of the New Zealand Tests. The match is expected to provide him with an opportunity to build his bowling workload in a competitive environment.

Bumrah’s preparation for New Zealand Tests
The third India A multi-day match against New Zealand A is scheduled to begin on November 7, while India’s first Test against New Zealand is scheduled to start on November 19 in Wellington.
The gap between the two fixtures could help Bumrah prepare for the demands of Test cricket. His ability to generate pace, movement and accuracy makes him a crucial part of India’s plans, particularly in overseas conditions.
India’s management will be keen to ensure that Bumrah is physically prepared for the longer format, where his availability could prove decisive during the series.
India ODI squad announcement expected soon
Meanwhile, the Indian selection committee is expected to announce the squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand in the coming days. The BCCI has already confirmed that the ODI and Test squads will be announced separately from the T20I squad.
The ODI selection will be closely watched, particularly with questions surrounding the availability of senior players and the team’s plans for its pace attack.
New Zealand have already announced their ODI squads, with Mitchell Santner named captain. The five-match series will begin on November 4.
Bumrah’s potential absence would be a significant talking point, but India’s priority appears clear: ensure that the fast bowler is ready for the challenges of Test cricket rather than stretch his workload across formats unnecessarily.
