Former India skipper Rohit Sharma made an honest admission regarding 2023 ODI World Cup loss. It’s been almost three years since India’s heartbreaking defeat to Australia in the last ODI World Cup edition,
and ever since, November 19 hasn’t carried the same meaning for Indian fans and experts. Even today, the memory of the day leaves every cricket lover with a bittersweet feeling, and a reminder of how the Men in Blue, remained victorious throughout the campaign, but fell exactly where it mattered the most. Same is the emotion of those players who got featured in the World Cup squad, including Sharma.
The talismanic batter, who took over team India’s reins from Virat Kohli towards the end of 2021, is one of those players who couldn’t enjoy the taste of ODI World Cup victory yet. He wasn’t a part of the squad that won the 2011 World Cup, and thus far, it is the only feather missing from his hat. Even after the loss, Sharma timed and again opened up about it, and said, “The 50-over World Cup for me is the actual WC.”
Nevertheless, some wounds take longer to heal, and it is the same case with Sharma. The 39-year-old, who is hosting a family entertainer show on Sony, ‘Family Full Show with Rohit Sharma’ spoke about the same, and said that he wants to forget 19 November.
During the show, Bollywood actor Angad Bedi, the son of former late Indian cricket legend Bishan Singh Bedi, asked him about the iconic hug between him and Virat Kohli following the 2024 World Cup win. Sharma recalled the incident and revealed what led to the moment that later broke the internet.

Rohit Sharma makes honest admission about November 19, 2023
“From 2015 to 2024, we just kept running behind the World Cup, and came close to it multiple times. In 2015, we missed it narrowly, once again came close to it in 2019. And then 2023, I don’t even want to remember it. I want to forget November 19,” Sharma said.
“Then, the next six months that we had, I knew somewhere that the 2024 World Cup was going to be my T20 World Cup. I and Virat also had a word that we wouldn’t play T20 after that. It was the reason it was so emotional because we had done so much hard work for it. When it happened, I couldn’t comprehend what should I do, whatever happened, happened in the moment,” he stated.
Notably, after the win, Kohli had also talked about the iconic hug that Angad Bedi was referring to. He said, “On 29th June, after winning the T20 World Cup, when I was going up the stairs & Rohit was coming down. I was crying & Rohit was also crying. We hugged each other. I will never forget that moment in my lifetime.”
Both Kohli and Sharma are currently a part of Indian ODI squad which will take on West Indies on Sunday, September 27 in Trivandrum, Kerala.
