In India’s opening match of the Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2026 against Nepal at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground, the son of former Indian batter Virender Sehwag produced a performance that gave a glimpse of the past.
One such moment arrived when Aaryavir Sehwag got to a half-century, not with a quiet single or a gentle push, but with a clean, towering six. The landmark itself was very similar to Sehwag as Aaryavir reached his fifty with a six, clearing the boundary in the same fearless style that once made his father one of the most destructive openers the game has seen.
Sony Sports highlighted the shot as “a milestone brought up with a six” and “the Sehwag signature,” and social media quickly filled with the same quotes. The resemblance in timing, intent and that swagger was hard to miss. The Sony Sports Network cameras caught it perfectly, and the caption said it all: “Like father, like son.”

The back-foot punches, the willingness to take the aerial route, the refusal to let bowlers settle all of it was on display for Aaravir which reminded of Virender Sehwag. Despite this Aaryavir has been careful in interviews to say he does not dwell on the comparisons. The focus, he says, remains on his own game and mental strength.
Aaryavir Sehwag helps India to dominant 10-wicket win over Nepal
Chasing a modest 129, Aaryavir walked out to open the batting alongside captain Lakshya Raichandani and never looked back. He finished unbeaten on 70 off just 52 balls, laced with seven fours and four sixes. His strike rate sat at a healthy 134-plus. Raichandani contributed a solid 53 not out off 63 deliveries as India raced home in only 19.1 overs for a thumping 10-wicket victory, with 185 balls still remaining.
Nepal had been restricted to 128 all out in 42.3 overs after being put in to bat. Ishan Sood and Arjun Rajput claimed three wickets each to dismantle the top and middle order, leaving the Indian openers with a straightforward chase. Aaryavir took charge of the tempo, punishing anything loose and rotating the strike with ease. The partnership between the two openers was unbroken, and India picked up a comfortable win. India now turn their attention to a much stronger opposition as they will be up against Pakistan on Sunday.
