The Indian cricket team will return to action on Wednesday, September 10 when they kickstart their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium
in Dubai. While they tournament, which is being played in T20 format, will see Suryakumar Yadav lead the side after veteran Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced retirement from the format after India’s T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados in 2024.
While the senior Indian duo remain out of action, there is a lot of chatter around their future. The two veterans of the game were scheduled to return to action in the limited overs series against Bangladesh in August after their retirement from Test cricket in May 2025, but a postponement has further delayed it. Amid this, sources close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared big update around them.
Call on on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli yet to be taken on India A participation: Reports
With speculations going rife of Indian selectors picking Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for India A, a source in the developments informed that their participation in India A series is yet to be decided. However, the source added that the seniors are set to return for Australia ODI series, set to be played in October. “See it’s highly unlikely that they will play the three India A games. No call has been taken on that and it will not be forced upon them too.,” a senior BCCI official said as quoted by TOI.
“Only if they need some game time, you could see them play one, or even two games before the Australia ODIs. But nothing has been finalised yet,” he further added. The official further addressed, “They are very much fit and available for the Australia ODIs. Before the selectors decide the India A squad and then the India squads for Australia tour, Irani Cup squad will be announced and some selectors are set to watch the Duleep Trophy final in Bengaluru while Ajit Agarkar is with the team in Dubai,” the official continued.
It is to be noted that India A will host Australia A in two multi-day matches, starting from September 16 in Lucknow. The multi-day matches will be followed by three one-day games, scheduled to take place on September 30, 2025, October 03, 2025 and October 05, 2025 respectively in Kanpur.
