With the Indian cricketing calendar curently at halt, the next major event for the Indian cricket team is the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 , scheduled to be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28. While the Men in Blue
will be entering the tournament as the defending champions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is facing a tough challenge as they are set to name the squad for the continental tournament.
While Suryakumar Yadav, who took over the T20I captaincy reins from Rohit Sharma after the latter’s retirement following India’s T20 World Cup triump last year, is set to lead the side, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has a tough call to make when it comes to the team selection for the eight-team tournament.
Asia Cup squad to be announced on August 19: Reports
With the tournament nearing, the men’s selection committee is expected to meet in Mumbai next Tuesday (August 19) to pick the 15-member squad. Reports citing the Times of India (TOI) stated that the announcement will be made onA ugust 19 with Suryakumar Yadav set to resume T20I captaincy. "Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar," a source in the BCCI said, as quoted by TOI.
It is to be noted that Suryakumar Yadav is currently recovering at the BCCI’s centre of Excellence (CoE) after undergoing a sports hernia surgery in Germany. He is expected to be joined by the likes of Hardik Pandya, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill in the squad with big names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and others missing out.
