Days after filing nominations in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jammu and Kashmir-born Mithun Manhas on Sunday, September 28 was officially announced as the President of the apex cricket
board. The middle-order batter, who played for Delhi, became the first player to take the role without an Indian cap on Sunday.
The 45-year-old, who has been reportedly elected unopposed, will succeed former Indian cricketer and President Roger Binny, who ended his tenure after turning 70 years in July 2025. While Mithun Manhas was the front-runner to assume the role in the BCCI after a meeting with the administrators, Rajeev Shukla will continue as Vice President and Devajit Saikia as Secretary.

The former cricketer, who is considered as the stalwart of Indian domestic circuit, was spotted outside the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, suited in white blazer as he took charge of the position. However, the confirmation was made last weekend by Rajeev Shukla, who during the nomination filing confirmed positions.
“I have come to file nomination,” Shukla told the reporters at the BCCI office. “A panel is ready, with Mithun Manhas for the post of president, me for vice president, Devajit Saikia for secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia for joint secretary and Raghuram Bhatt for treasurer. There is a nomination for the names decided for the governing council. So, a new body is being formed for the next tenure. Good luck to all,” he said.
Speaking of the former Delhi cricketer, he served in the role of an all-rounder, batting right-handed in the middle order and providing additional bowling option with his offbreak. While he made his professional debut in 1997-98, his best in the domestic circuit came in 2007-08 where he led Delhi to Ranji Trophy title.
