Matthew Breetzke registered his first ODI hundred in the first clash against Australia on Thursday, September 24. Breetzke and South Africa are hosting the Kangaroos in a multi-format series, which kicked
off with an ODI at Kingsmead in Durban. After having asked to bat first, the Proteas got off to a disappointing start where they lost their openers cheaply. Not only this, but skipper Temba Bavuma and Ryan Rickelton couldn’t contribute much with the bat and were back in the hut at 30 runs and 27 runs, respectively.
Just when Australia thought they had already established their dominance in the game, Matthew Breetzke came up with his brilliant hundred to guide the side out of a hole. Registering his eighth ODI fifty in fifty deliveries, the 27-year-old converted his knock into his second ton in the format. As soon as he reached the three-figure mark in 100 deliveries, Breetzke removed his helmet and received a hug from Marco Jansen, who was at the other end of the crease and a standing ovation from the stadium crowd.

Matthew Breetzkee Records Historic Feat for South Africa with his Hundred
Matthew Breetzkee’s hundred against Australia on Thursday marked his second ODI ton, along with six half-centuries in just 14 innings. With this, he also became the third South African to hit an ODI hundred against Australia in Durban. The other two batters are Boeta Dippenaar, who played a knock of 101 in 2006 followed by David Miller, who came up with 118*-run knock in 2016 at the venue.
Coming back to the game, as Breetzkee came up with his hundred, Marco Jansen also recorded his fifty. Jansen achieved the feat in just 46 deliveries and hit four boundaries and three sixes against Australia during his knock. The stellar knocks by both batters guided the side beyond the 250-run mark.
