On August 24, 1997, India Women all-rounder Deepti Sharma was born to Bhagwan Sharma and Sushila Sharma. In the initial phase of her career in cricket, she was coached by her elder brother Sumit Sharma. She
broke into international cricket in 2014, with her appearance for India Women against South Africa Women in the WODI game played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. After 15 months of her WODI debut, she recorded her best WODI figures with the ball. The spinner grabbed a six-wicket haul after splurging 20 runs in 9.2 overs against Sri Lanka in Ranchi and it became India Women's second-best bowling performance in a WODI innings.
The same year, she also made WT20 International (WT20I) debut against Australia Women in Sydney. In 2019, she claimed 4/10 figures against West Indies in Gros Islet and guided India to a convincing 10-wicket win. In her 11-year international career, Deepti has done a fine job as an all-rounder. She has racked up 2392 runs and 136 wickets in 109 WODIs while in the shortest form of the sport, she has amassed 1100 runs and 147 wickets in 129 outings. In 2021, she got her Test cap against England Women in Bristol. Playing her maiden game, she bagged a three-wicket haul in the first innings while in the second innings, she played a 54-run knock to help her team secure a draw while following on.
Deepti Sharma’s WPL performance
In 2023, when the maiden WPL auction was held, Deepti Sharma became the fourth most expensive player after getting sold to UP Warriorz (UPW) at the amount of INR 2.60 Crore. UPW concluded their second season in the playoffs and Deepti concluded her season as the second-leading wicket-taker for her side with 10 wickets in eight games.
Discussing her overall figures in WPL, she has clinched 27 wickets in 25 outings at an economy of 8.29. Discussing her batting numbers, she has hoarded 507 runs with three fifties in 27 matches. Her best performance for the side came against Delhi Capitals Women in 2024, when she notched up 59 off 48 with the bat and also chipped in with 4/19 figures with the ball. The four-wicket is her best bowling performance for UPW.
