On Tuesday, August 19, the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be played from September 9 to 28 in the UAE.
While the Men in Blue will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, in a surprising move, Shubman Gill made his return in the setup as he was named the vice-captain of the side.
However, Shubman Gill’s return in the Indian T20I setup became the talk of the moment, he is finally set to make a comeback after being named in the side and also being entrusted as Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy. Moreover, the squad announcement also brought in some surprises as well as shocking decisions.
Yashasvi Jaiswal named in reserve list; no place for Shreyas Iyer
While star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer, who was speculated to make a comeback in the Indian side, missed a place, he was also excluded from the reserve player list. Ahead of him, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel were named in the side. Despite boasting of 723 runs from 23 T20Is, Jaiswal’s last T20I appearance came in July 2024. Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar, who has been in good touch, also could not find a place in the 15-men squad, but was named in the reserves list.
