Afghanistan is amidst turmoil after the ongoing tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan. The the tensions escalated after Pakistan’s airstrikes in the Paktika Province of Afghanistan which left as many
as ten dead, including three cricketers. As a result, the Afghanistan cricket Board (ACB) decided to pull out of the upcoming tri-series involving Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Pakistan.
Hile the recent airstrikes has left the nation disturbed, Afghanistan T20I captain Rashid Khan was also saddened, calling them “absolutely immoral and barbaric”. Hours after the airstrikes, Khan took to X and wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of civilian lives in the recent Pakistani aerial strikes on Afghanistan — a tragedy that claimed the lives of women, children, and aspiring young cricketers who dreamed of representing their nation on the world stage.”
“These unjust and unlawful actions represent a grave violation of human rights and must not go unnoticed. In light of the precious innocent souls lost, I welcome the ACB's decision to withdraw from upcoming fixtures against Pakistan. I stand with our people at this difficult time — our national dignity must come before all else,” he further wrote.
Rashid Khan removes PSL team Lahore Qalandars from X bio; goes viral
In the wake of this, Rashid Khan’s latest move has once again got him in news. The versatile cricketer, who plays T20 leagues around the world including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL) and several others. But recently, the Afghan all-rounder removed his PSL team Lahore Qalandars’ name from his profile bio on X.
While his profile bio had Gujarat Titans (GT) and Adelaide Strikes’ name apart from his national team, it did not sport his PSL franchise’s name, leaving everyone questioning. However, he hasn’t revealed the reason behind it, but it most likely comes amidst the ongoing tensions.
