The Hundred 2025 is underway in the United Kingdom (UK), with both men’s and women’s matches underway simultaneously. On Saturday, August 9, the tournament saw its first double-header where Oval Invincibles
defeated Manchester Originals by nine wickets in the afternoon match, whereas the London Spirit reigned supreme over Welsh Fire by eight runs in the evening clash.
The London Spirit, who came into the sixth match of The Hundred 2025 after losing their opening match against the Invincibles, got their first win on Saturday as they defeated the Welsh Fire at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. For the unversed, the Tom Abell-led side won the toss and invited the Kane Williamson-led side to bat first.
David Warner’s The Hundred maiden 50 outshines Bairstow’s 86*
Coming out to bat, Kane Williamson opened the innings with former Australia cricketer David Warner. While the skipper departed after run-a-ball 14, Warner played a gritty unbeaten knock of 70. His innings was laced with 10 boundaries, eight fours and two maximums, which saw him hit the ball at a strike rate of 155.56.
While Warner went onto to hit his maiden fifty in The Hundred, on the back of Daniel Worrall’s two wickets and one each from Luke Wood, Richard Gleeson, Jamie Overton and Liam Dawson saw the Spirit restrict the Welsh Fire to 155 in the 100 balls with Jonny Bairstow’s unbeaten 86 also going in vain.
The Kane Williamson-led side, who are placed fourth in The Hundred 2025 standings with one win and one loss, will next travel to Emirates Old Trafford to take on Manchester Originals in match nine, set to be played on Monday, August 11.
