of the selection committee comes to an end on October 4 this year, and it has been learnt that he is not seeking an extension to his contract. He has also communicated his decision to the board. There were reports that the board was backing him to continue till 2027, but per latest reports, Agarkar is set to bid adieu to the role after three years. Sources further suggest that former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has emerged as a frontrunner to replace Agarkar.
Anyway, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has said that the board had some more time to take a call on Agarkar’s future. “We still have 15 days to go,” Saikia said in Mumbai after BCCI’s annual general meeting. “Fifteen days is a long time in the world of cricket. While the fixed amount that Agarkar earns isn’t known in the public domain, several reports suggest that Agarkar received a hefty raise as he took over in July 2023. According to the Free Press Journal, the BCCI notably restructured the annual compensation model for the senior selection panel, raising the chief selector’s annual remuneration from INR 1 Crore to INR 3 Crore. This three-fold hike was instituted to incentivize top-tier former international cricketers to take up the demanding full-time administrative roles.
Talking about Agarkar’s net worth, several financial analyses and sports media estimates his total net worth to be between INR 40 Crore to INR 60 Crore, which equals to around $5 million to $6 million. He has built his financial fortune via multiple contracts and match fees across 191 ODIs and 26 Tests, as well as player contracts with Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals.
