India have received a major boost ahead of their upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, with all-rounder Washington Sundar declared fit and available for selection. The development comes as the Indian
team management continues to assess the fitness of several key players ahead of the series.
According to reports, Sundar has successfully recovered from his recent fitness concerns and has been cleared to feature in the T20I matches against Afghanistan. His availability will provide India with an additional spin-bowling option while also strengthening the team’s batting depth.
However, the fitness situation remains uncertain for three other important players. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, young pacer Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Reddy are yet to receive clearance from the BCCI medical board. Their availability will depend on the results of their respective fitness assessments and the medical team’s final decision.

Bumrah’s potential absence or availability will be particularly significant for India, given his importance to the bowling attack. The experienced pacer has become one of India’s most dependable performers across formats, while Harshit Rana has emerged as an exciting option in the pace department.
Nitish Reddy, meanwhile, offers India valuable balance with his ability to contribute with both bat and ball. His presence can give the team greater flexibility when finalising its playing XI. With no Hardik Pandya still, Nitish Kumar Reddy has another opportunity to showcase his skills.
With Washington Sundar now declared fit, India have at least one positive update from the medical room. The team will hope to receive further clarity on Bumrah, Harshit and Nitish before the Afghanistan T20Is get underway.
The squad for the series is likely to be announced this week.
