Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday, October 7 announced white-ball squads for the upcoming series against India. It is to be noted that after winning the three-match series against New Zealand, the team
from Down Under will host India in a limited-overs tour, starting October 19. The series consists of three ODIs, followed by five-match T20I series.
Mitchell Starc returns in ODIs; Matthew Renshaw recalled for three-match series
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have also named their squads for the upcoming tour, the Aussie side will see Mitchell Starc return in the 50-over format after he announced retirement from T20I days ago. While Starc will spearhead the fast bowling department, he will be joined by Mathew Short and Mitchell Owen, both of whom also return after recovering from side strain and concussion respectively.
Moeover, Australia have also announced 14-member squad for first two T20Is, set to be played on October 29 and October 31 respectively. In the T20I setup, Josh Inglis and Nathan Ellis will mark their return whereas Glenn Maxwell continues to sit out after his recent injury which ruled him out of the Trans-Tasman series. "We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket," said selection committee chair George Bailey.
He further added, "The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it's an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead."
