Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s future is expected to be one of the major talking points of the BCCI review meeting set to take place on Thursday. Sharma, who has announced his retirement from T20Is
and Tests, is only active in the 50-over format, but the hopes of his participation are hanging by a thread. As per an earlier report from Indian Express, Sharma was likely to announce his retirement from international cricket following the England series. However, his befitting 138 off 110 balls not only gave the side a much-needed momentum, but also ruled out the possibility of his retirement for some time.
But as the cricket board is expected to meet Ajit Agarkar, VVS Laxman, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and skippers Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, Sharma’s future could be a talking point. And some decision around Sharma’s future is likely to be taken in the review meeting. Amidst all the chaos and uncertainty, a shocking report suggested that Sharma was apparently angry when he was informed that the selection committee has decided to move on from him. As per PTI, it was a member of the panel, and not Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar that he was no longer in the scheme of things. However, he had agreed to retire after the ODI series against England.

Jonty Rhodes Weighs in On Importance of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in 2027 ODI World Cup
Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes spoke about the importance of having former skipper Rohit Sharma in the Indian squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. He also highlighted how Sharma could help the side. “You’ve got to remember that having experience at a World Cup is another factor that we don’t factor in. We look at the talent of the players, the ability that they’ve got and their performances. Maybe they’ve had a great knock and had a good season. But when it comes down to pressure moments, a World Cup is very much high pressure,” Rhodes told Jio Hotstar.
He also spoke on Shubman Gill’s captaincy skills and said how keeping seniors in mind could be a good way for him to start. “Having the likes of Rohit and Virat in your setup, and Shubman has been pretty consistent in his energy levels, the way that he conducts himself as a captain, and prior to that, as a player, it’s all very consistent. As long as he’s not trying to be anybody else, which is impossible, because when you’re under pressure, you always revert back to who you really are. He’s gotten to that stride very quickly,” Rhodes said.
