South Africa took on Australia in the second ODI on Sunday, September 27, eyeing a series win following a blowout win in the series opener. The game saw skipper Temba Bavuma and David Miller put up an exemplary
batting show to put up a mammoth total of 365 runs with the loss of nine wickets.
Despite a disastrous start for the home side, Bavuma and Miller steadied the ship with a stunning 156-run partnership. Both the batters came up with their respective hundreds and took the game away from the Australian side, who had won the toss and opted to bowl first.
However, it was just not an ordinary game, this was the special occasion of ‘Pink Day’. It is a special cricket campaign organized to spread awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for the treatments of those affected in South Africa. On annual Pink Day fixtures, players use pink-coloured materials and wear pink jerseys. They have been carrying out various activities in honour of those who have been affected by the disease.

Team South Africa wears names of breast cancer fighters and survivors on jerseys
During the second ODI, the Proteas Men added a special touch to the ‘Pink Day’ Game by wearing the names of breast cancer survivors on their jerseys. Aiden Markram donned the name of Geraldine, who is the mother of women’s cricketer Tazmin Britz. On the other hand, David Miller wore the name of his mother, Jenny.
In addition, Tristan Stubbs wore the name of Simon Hewitt on his jersey to spread awareness that even 1% men can also get breast cancer. Here’s what the jersey names looked like for South African players during Pink Day fixtures-
