Harry Kane opened up on the intensifying Ballon d’Or talks, while displaying contentment for being in contention for the prestigious award. Speaking to TNT Sports, the Bayern Munich and England captain
reflected on a campaign that has put him firmly in the conversation for football’s most prestigious individual prize. “Of course, now it is out of my hands, it is down to the voters and the people who decide it. The season I had was my best season by far, and we’ll have to wait and see,” Kane said. He added, “I’m happy that I am in contention, so we will have to wait and see.”
The 33-year-old has finally removed the trophy-less tag that followed him for years at Tottenham. After moving to Bayern in 2023, Kane has transformed into a relentless goal scorer while collecting silverware. Last season he scored 73 goals for club and country going past Cristiano Ronaldo’s previous single-season high of 69 and behind only Lionel Messi’s record 82 from 2011-12. Bookmakers have installed him as favourite for the Ballon d’Or, a win that would make him the first Englishman to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001 and only the fifth overall. Kane has spoken of the pride he feels simply being in the mix. He recalled growing up as a fan dreaming of becoming a professional, now finding himself compared with the game’s modern greats.

Harry Kane’s 73-goal season puts him firmly in Ballon d’Or contention
The 2026 Ballon d’Or shortlist is expected to be revealed shortly with 30 men’s nominees typically selected by France Football. Early contenders lists and power rankings consistently place Harry Kane at or near the top alongside names such as Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe, Rodri, Ousmane Dembele, Erling Haaland, Michael Olise, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and others who shone across club and international stages, including the 2026 World Cup. Kane’s case is one of the most prolific individual seasons in modern football.

For Bayern, he scored 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions: 36 in the Bundesliga ,winning the Torjagerkanone for a third consecutive season, 14 in the Champions League, 10 in the DFB-Pokal and one in the Supercup. Those club figures, combined with his international tally, produced the 73-goal total that only Messi has surpassed in a single campaign.
He also won the European Golden Shoe for the second time and was named Germany’s Footballer of the Year. Beyond the goals, Kane has also won trophies. Bayern secured a domestic double with the Bundesliga title and DFB-Pokal, plus the Supercup. On the international front he captained England to a strong World Cup showing where they finished third and scored crucial goals along the way. At club level he has now scored nearly 150 goals in roughly the same number of games for Bayern since leaving Tottenham and these make him one of the favourites to win Ballon d’Or.
