India dominate Sri Lanka in gold medal match
India had been outstanding throughout the final.
Batting first, India posted a huge 216/3 in 20 overs, powered by a brilliant innings from Smriti Mandhana. The left-handed opener smashed 79 runs from 45 balls, hitting five fours and seven sixes.
Shafali Verma also made a valuable contribution, scoring 48 off 29 deliveries, while Richa Ghosh provided a sensational finish with an unbeaten 49 off just 22 balls.
India’s bowling attack then completed the job in style. Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 69 in 15.4 overs, handing India a comprehensive 147-run victory.
Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, returning impressive figures of 3/6 in four overs. Shafali Verma, Shreyanka Patil and Shree Charani claimed two wickets each as India dismantled the Sri Lankan batting line-up. India eventually won by 147 runs to make history at the Games.
