South Africa batter Dewald Brevis has remembered his first meeting with the former Protea captain AB de Villiers. Brevis is often compared with De Villiers for the former’s stroke-playing potential. Noting
the resemblance between both Proteas, cricket fans also call Bevis ‘Baby AB.’ Brevis, who is currently in Australia for a white-ball series against the Mitchell Marsh-led side, has grabbed a lot of attention with his batting in T20 this year, so far. Appearing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, he produced some sensational knocks from his bat.
Recently, Brevis revealed he was star-struck when he saw de Villiers for the first time. The youngster said he saw de Villiers for the first time at a restaurant Hazlewood Culture Club. Brevis said he was keen to click a picture with de Villiers but also felt nervous to approach the legend. “I will always remember that day. We were at a restaurant with my brother and family, and AB and his wife just walked past us. I wanted to ask for a picture, but I froze. Then his wife encouraged him, saying, ‘AB, come AB, come for a picture,’ and that’s how I finally got it,” said Brevis in his chat with SuperSport.

Brevis also disclosed that he met de Villiers again after a few days. This time, the South Africa great visited the school in which Dewald Brevis used to study. This time, the Johannesburg-born cricketer asked de Villiers for the latter’s contact number. “We were walking with him and I just blurted out, ‘AB, you can say no, but can I please have your number?’ I don’t even know how those words came out,” Brevis recalled.
de Villiers gave Brevis the number and since then, both have been in touch with each other and the former Protea stalwart also guided the youngster to evolve as a player. Recently, Brevis looked sensational with his bat during the three-match T20 International series against Australia. He notched up 180 runs in three games at a strike rate of 204.54 and ended up as the leading run-getter in the competition.
