After drawing the five-match Test series against England 2-2, the Indian cricket team prevailed over the West Indies challenge and registered a 2-0 clean sweep in the series, which was held last month
at home. While the Men in Blue were without some of the key players, star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was one of the notable absentee as he was completing his rehabilitation following a fractured foot in England.
Notably, in the fourth Test against England, which was played in Manchester, Pant sustained a fractured foot and was ruled out of the fifth Test of the series. Despite the injury, Pant returned to the field to bat, but the Men’s Selection Committee named Narayan Jagadeesan as his replacement.Although, he was initially set to undergo six weeks of recovery period, but the injury required an extended timeline, keeping him out until the two-match Test series against West Indies.
I’m fully recovered : Rishabh Pant after his return to competitive cricket following foot injury
Taking the field in the unofficial first Test against South Africa A, Rishabh Pant can be seen leading the Indian side. Speaking on the sidelines of India A’s match against South Africa A , Pant opened up about his recovery journey. “The first part of the process was healing. For the first six weeks, you have to let the fracture heal properly and then report to the CoE. Thankfully, the healing went well,” Pant said in a video shared by BCCI .
“I started my rehab gradually. In the early days, there was a lot of physiotherapy and careful monitoring. Once I regained some mobility, I began focusing on building strength, which marked the start of the second phase. Right now, I’m happy to say that I’m fully recovered, and I owe a big thanks to the CoE staff for helping me through it,” he added.
It is to be noted that Pant’s return wasn’t his usual one as he scored just 17 runs off 20 deliveries in first innings before getting dismissed by pacer Okuhle Cele, however his return to the field was one of the brightest signs for the Indian cricket team.
