On this day, 27 February 2011: India and England tie an epic match in the 2011 World Cup. It was on this day almost 15 years ago that India and England were involved in a high scoring thriller and in the end
both teams did not deserve to lose and the match was tied. The match took place in Chinnaswamy Stadium, India were batting first and Virender Sehwag got India off to a quick start scoring 35 runs before losing his wicket. India lost their first wicket on 46 but Gautam Gambhir came in and along with Sachin Tendulkar stitched up a partnership of more than 100. Both batters completed their half centuries and Gambhir was dismissed for 51.
Yuvraj Singh played an excellent cameo as he scored quick fire half century and India continued to dominate with the bat. Sachin Tendulkar completed his century and India went past the 300 run mark before Yuvraj Singh was dismissed with four overs left in the innings. Surprisingly England bowlers came back strongly at the death overs as India were bowled out for 338 with one ball still left in the innings. They went from 305/3 to 338 all out. Tim Bresnan picked up a five-wicket haul but it was still a good score on the board by India at the end of the first innings.
England were chasing such a big target but Strauss and Kevin Pietersen started very well and stitched up an opening partnership of more than fifty. India got their first wicket for 68. Andrew Strauss continued blazing away and the other batters chipped in. Ian Bell scored a half century and England were going at a good rate and were right in the game.
Andrew Strauss completed his century and made it into a big one. He got good support from Bell and England were cruising along. Strauss went to 158 before being dismissed by Zaheer Khan who bowled a beauty. England ended up with 338/8 and the match was tied. It was a game that both teams did not deserve to lose and this high scoring thriller was one of the best matches of the 2011 World Cup.
