Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler, recently made an appearance on 'Aap Ki Adalat' show on India TV, hosted by the channel’s Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma. The 35-year-old spoke at length
about his professional and personal life during the famed show, and at one point, he revealed about dealing with suicidal thoughts before the ODI World Cup 2019, which was played in England, but fortunately, didn’t act on it due to cricket.
Notably, it was in 2018 when Mohammed Shami divorced ex-wife Hasin Jahan after she repeatedly accused him of domestic violence while they were married for four years. It is also important to note that the Calcutta High Court had recently directed Mohammed Shami to pay a certain amount of alimony to Hasin Jahan after their elongated legal war, as reported by News18.

While speaking about his suicidal thoughts on Aap Ki Adalat with Rajat Sharma on India TV, Mohammed Shami said, “Socha zaroor, par hua nahin, yeh shukr hai varna World Cup miss ho jata mere sey (I did think about it, but I couldn’t do it, it’s a blessing after all, because otherwise I would have missed the World Cup).” Shami also remarked that while the thought about suicide did come to his mind, but he decided to forget it because of the love for the game of cricket.
Mohammed Shami last played for India in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final
During the ODI World Cup 2019, Mohammed Shami played just four matches as replacement for injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar, taking 14 wickets including a hat-trick, which helped him get over the suicidal thoughts. Recently, the Indian fast bowler wasn’t picked for the Test tour to England, quite possibly due to issues surrounding his fitness, and his last appearance for India came in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand, which they ended up winning.
Since the 35-year-old didn’t get picked in the Indian squad in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, which is getting played in the T20I format, it will be interesting to see whether he will make the team for the white-ball tour of Australia next month.
