New Zealand created history as they won their first ever ODI series in India. They beat India by 41 runs in third ODI match to seal the series 2-1. It was a truly remarkable performance as they were without
their main players especially in the bowling department. It was a closely fought game at the Holkar Stadium in Indore which saw three centuries being scored but in the end it was New Zealand who came out on top and won the game along with clinching the series win.
Earlier in the day, India won the toss and opted to bowl first and it was a great start for the hosts as New Zealand were 5/2 at one stage but they recovered brilliantly. After losing the third wicket, it was a sensational partnership between Phillips and Mitchell as both of them scored centuries. Daryl Mitchell continued from where he left off in the second match as the star batter slammed yet another century in the third ODI of the series against India. He also ended this series as the highest run getter. New Zealand posted 337 in the first innings and it was an excellent recovery.
Chasing a big target, Rohit Sharma fell early for 11, while Gill was dismissed for 23. Shreyas Iyer fell on on three, while Rahul mistimed was dismissed for one as India were 71/4 and in all sorts of trouble. Virat Kohli continued his sublime form as he continued batting well. Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a half century as India clawed back into the contest. But just as they got into a good position they lost Nitish Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja.
Virat Kohli continued his sublime touch as he scored his 54th century. He smashed eight fours and two sixes on his way to a century. Harshit Rana gave good support as he smashed his way to a half century as India got back into the game. But soon Harshit Rana and Siraj lost their wickets as India were eight down.
The final blow happened as Virat Kohli was dismissed for 124 and the final wicket was lost via a run-out as India lost by 41 runs. New Zealand won the match and series. Daryl Mitchell was deservingly the Player of the Series and he also captained New Zealand in the second innings as Bracewell was out of the game due to injury. Mitchell also won the player of the match.
