Ahead of the game, Abhishek addressed his teammates during the huddle and made it clear that he wanted the Indian team to play with an attacking and fearless mindset. The young opener also told his teammates that he would speak in Punjabi before urging everyone to play like “soormas” a Punjabi word that translates to “warriors.”

Abhishek’s message was simple, “warriors do not show mercy to anyone”. He stressed that the team needed to play with the same fearless intent and entertain the full crowd that had turned up at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Little did anyone know that Abhishek would go on to deliver a performance that perfectly matched his own words.
Walking out to open the innings, the left-hander unleashed an extraordinary assault on the Afghanistan bowling attack. He raced to his century in just 30 balls, rewriting the record books in the process.
His 30-ball hundred became the fastest T20I century by a player representing a Test-playing nation. In the process, Abhishek also broke the Indian record previously held by Rohit Sharma, who had smashed a 35-ball century in T20Is.
Abhishek’s innings was filled with powerful strokes, fearless hitting and remarkable intent from the very beginning. Rather than allowing the bowlers any time to settle, he took the attack to them and kept the pressure firmly on Afghanistan.
