Ahead of Real Madrid’s clash against Valencia, Jose Mourinho made his expectations clear for the high-voltage clash between Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona. The Real Madrid manager claimed that he wanted
both teams to lose, and unfortunately, that is an impossible result. FC Barcelona sit on top of LaLiga with 30 points, followed by Atletico Madrid in 2nd place with 28 points. Los Blancos would be hoping the clash to end in a draw, and that could take the men in white to 2nd place in the points table. If Atletico Madrid doesn’t win against FC Barcelona, Real Madrid does have a high chance of climbing the leaderboard in LaLiga.
“Atlético vs Barcelona? I’d like both of them to lose!. Unfortunately, that’s not possible. Points will inevitably be dropped, and that’s the best possible news,” stated Jose Mourinho when asked about the desired result in the clash between Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona. Real Madrid are way off the top of the table, and they would require 4 points to reach the top. They would be hoping that both sides lose points in their upcoming fixtures, and then they could return to the top. However, Jose Mourinho would have his focus set on the weekend match against Valencia, as that could reduce the difference in points between the top 3.

Los Blancos aim to extend their winning streak in LaLiga
Real Madrid have enjoyed a fine run of form over the last 4 games as they have secured all 12 points. The El Clásico win played a huge role in reducing the margin between the two sides, and now, there is a difference of just 3 points. Jose Mourinho is aware that his side would need to keep their consistency high in the coming fixtures to overtake the Catalans. But one of the persistent issues that Real Madrid could face would be FC Barcelona’s goal difference. The goal difference of Flick’s side is currently 34, and that is because of the heavy margins of victory in the opening games of the season.
In the clash against Valencia, Real Madrid have received some positive news in terms of player availability. Arda Güler and Aurélien Tchouaméni return to the squad after being rested for the Champions League win against AEK Athens. Dean Huijsen and Ibrahima Konaté are also confirmed to start against Valencia, and that would be a massive boost to their defensive unit. However, Vini Jr. would miss the clash as he would be serving his final game of the 4-match suspension from the league matches due to his violent conduct.
Jose Mourinho and his men would be confident in securing all 3 points at Mestalla, Valencia, in the league match. Real Madrid haven’t won La Liga in a long time, and their manager would be eager to break the streak of their rivals, FC Barcelona. A win against Valencia could place Real Madrid in heavy contention for the title, and that could intensify the race to the top of the table.
