Despite 45 days of cricketing action, we didn’t get a winner as the Anderson - Tendulkar Trophy 2025 ended at a scoreline of 2-2. With a thrilling six-run win in the fifth and the final Test in London,
India were successful in leveling the series. Throughout the series, the had been some remarkable performances from players from England and India making it a competitive and challenging series for both the teams.
Now, as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is ended, former England pacer Stuart Broad named his combined playing XI for the Test series including players from both England and India. As Broad included notable performers from the series like English captain, Ben Stokes, KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Joe Root, Harry Brook and others, his combined XI didn’t have a place for Indian captain Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja.
Root is better than Gill at number 4 currently: Stuart Broad
Playing his first Test series as captain, Shubman Gill made it a memorable one amassing 754 runs from five matches becoming the first Asian batter score 700+ in a SENA Test series. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja also turned out to be a star performer for India in England Test playing a major role with the bat. Jadeja scored 516 runs in five matches at an average of 86 and walked out unbeaten four times in the series. Apart from that, Jadeja also took seven wickets with the ball in the series.
However, while making his combined playing XI, Stuart Broad put his country mate Joe Root at number four in place of Shubman Gill. Root also finished as second highest run getter of the series amassing 537 runs at an average of 67.12. Broad also snubbed Jadeja from his XI and included all-rounders like Ben Stokes andWashington Sundar.
“You are missing the crucial info. In their role. Gill had to be 4. Root is better at 4 than him currently. The choice wasn’t between Pope or Gill. Obviously Gill deserves to be in. Just not in place of Root,” Broad was quoted as saying by India Today.
