For someone who’s not spoken about a great deal and isn’t perhaps a news maker every single day much like some of the other bigger and prominent names in the side who usually command bigger attention and interest,
such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, it’s refreshing and glad to see someone like Washington Sundar make sterling news.
It is a matter of great pride for India when any of its contributing members in any playing XI makes news and one such prominent performer, especially when you happen to note the recent times, is Washington Sundar.
That’s down to the simple reason that the all round cricketer, among the noted talents as far as the white ball all round department is concerned, played a great role in India winning the celebrated and coveted gold medal in the recent Asian Games 2026 held at Japan.
How was that?
In the big and widely watched final match contest held against Pakistan, the right arm spin bowling all rounder delivered a cracking and match changing spell. As he bowled four overs and took two wickets while giving away 29 runs, his vital bowling skills helped India put pressure on Pakistan during the match.

He’s now been feted for his contributions by none other than the CM of Tamil Nadu, Mr. C Joseph Vijay, who’s presented the tall cricketer with a prized cheque worth INR 75 lakhs. This is indeed well earned and truly richly deserved.

What must also be remembered is just big a part, albeit perhaps also an underrated one, was played by Washington Sundar in the semi final contest. The talented 27-year-old cricketer, lest we forget, also did well in the semi-final against Sri Lanka. He bowled three overs, took one wicket and also bowled a maiden over.
It is decorations and salutations such as these which help us understand that several other key noted talents from India besides the popular heavyweights too, are playing their part to help the country attain prized heights such as the gold at the recent Asian Games.
