who will be India’s wicket-keeper batter in the competition. With KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Sanju Samson in contention, it will be interesting to witness who’s going to be picked for the primary stumper’s role in the squad. As per reports, Samson is the first-choice wicketkeeper batter for India head coach Gautam Gambhir as the former can play the role of opener and middle-order batter both if required.
KL Rahulis eager to make a comeback in the T20I squad after putting up a laudable batting performance for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Pant is also looking to return to T20Is for India after performing excellently in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. However, sources reveal Samson is enjoying Gambhir’s support which can help him earn the spot in Team India for the marquee competition to be played next month.
Sanju Samson’s performance in 2025
Sanju Samson’s last international outing was against England at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in February. In the five-match series, he struggled to be among the runs. The 30-year-old smashed 51 runs in five games at an average of 10.20 and a strike rate of 118.60.
Following the series against the English side, he captained Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2025. In the cash-rich league, he hoarded 285 runs in nine contests at a strike rate of 140.39. If he gets selected for the Asia Cup 2025, he will look to showcase his best to solidify his position in the team to feature in the T20 World Cup 2026, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February-March next year.
