The race for the Super 8 at the 1016 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is heating up with each passing day. While five teams have already qualified for the final eight, three slots are still vacant and it remains
to be seen which teams will occupy those positions. India, West Indies and South Africa have already qualified in Group 1 of the Super 8 and the remaining spot will be taken by either Zimbabwe or Australia with the former being the favorite to go through.
Group 2 will consist of Sri Lanka, England along with teams from Group A and D. USA and Pakistan are the contenders from Group A while New Zealand, Afghanistan and the UAE can possibly qualify from Group D. The situation is very tight and Pakistan’s Super 8 hopes are hanging by a thread.
Let us take a look at how Pakistan can be eliminated from the Super 8 race.

Pakistan have had a rough and disappointing start to their campaign and find themselves in a lot of problems. After two back-to-back wins against the Netherlands and the USA, Pakistan fell short against their arch rivals India and were on the receiving end of a humiliating defeat in Colombo. Their loss against India has put their Super 8 chances into danger with USA next in line to go through with a better NRR.
Pakistan will have to bid goodbye to the competition if they fail to win against Namibia on Wednesday. A win however will not confirm their qualification because USA have a match in hand coupled with a better NRR. If Pakistan wins against Namibia and USA also defeats the Netherlands in their last game, Pakistan will be eliminated.
The qualification mathematics is now not just limited to a win because the Net Run Rate will decide the ultimate winner. For Pakistan to qualify, they will have to win and hope that USA lose to the Netherlands.
