After 25 days of Test cricket, the Indian cricket team will now switch their focus to white-ball cricket for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, scheduled from September 9, 2025. The selection committee headed
by former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar is reportedly set to meet in the third week of August to finalise the squad for the multi-nation continental tournament. There are reports that many T20I players who proved their mettle in the Indian Premier League 2025 might be seen in the Indian jersey due to the 20-over format of the competition. Such speculations have led to the possibility of some names getting recalled who represented India in the past.
Krunal Pandya, while representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2025 edition had a good run. Reportedly, he is poised for a comeback in the Indian cricket team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. His inclusion, if confirmed, would mark his return to international cricket after a four-year hiatus, with his last T20I appearance for India in 2021. As per the reports by News18, Krunal Pandya’s performance in the IPL has caught the attention of selectors. The 34-year-old left-arm spinner and hard-hitting lower-order batter picked up 17 wickets and scored 109 runs across 15 matches in RCB’s triumphant season. His standout performance with the bat came in the match against Delhi Capitals, where he scored 73 runs and remained not out. While his spell of 4/45 against Mumbai Indians was registered as his best in the IPL.
Krunal Pandya has played five ODIs and 19 T20Is for India
Since his debut for team India in 2018 Krunal Pandya played 19 T20Is, taking 15 wickets and scoring 124 runs. He has also represented the Indian team in the ODI format, having one 50+ score and two wickets in the five matches he played. His ODI fifty (58* off 26 balls) on his debut against England is registered as the fastest half-century by a debutant. In the IPL, after contributing to Mumbai Indians’ title wins in 2017, 2019, and 2020, Krunal moved to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2022 for INR 8.25 crore, where he served as vice-captain and led the team in the absence of KL Rahul.
In the IPL 2025 auction, RCB secured his services for INR 5.75 crore, outbidding Rajasthan Royals in a competitive bidding war. The squad for the Asia Cup 2025 is yet to be announced. The team for the T20 format tournament is likely to be led by Suryakumar Yadav, and the rest of the members might include Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna, among others.
