The 20th Asian Games is all set to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from 19 September to 4 October 2026 and the attention has turned to India’s defence. They will look to build on their historic performance
three years earlier and will be defending 107 medals. That was India’s best-ever performance at the continental multi-sport event which was achieved in Hangzhou in 2023. The contingent returned with 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze, finishing fourth in the overall medal table and beating the previous best of 70 medals from Jakarta 2018. Athletics, shooting, archery, wrestling, boxing and kabaddi all had plenty of medals while cricket’s return after a long absence also gave gold in both the men’s and women’s T20 events.
