The Royal Challengers Bengaluru put up a dominant display against the hosts and it was raining sixes in the 1st innings. The rampage did continue in the 2nd innings as well by the Mumbai Indians, but it came too late.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the game by 18 runs and Phil Salt was awarded the Player of the Match award for his extraordinary 78 off just 36 balls, striking at 216. Phil Salt scored a sensational half-century while opening the innings, and he maximised the power play. Virat Kohli had a delayed start to the innings as despite scoring a few boundaries early on, he couldn’t build his innings quickly. The opening duo had put up a partnership of 120 runs from just 11 overs.
When Phil Salt was dismissed, the home side breathed a sigh of relief as the assault had finally ended. Rajat Patidar promoted himself up the order and decided not to send in Devdutt Padikkal. Patidar wasted no time to get things going as he was smashing sixes all around the park. After the dismissal of Virat Kohli, it was Tim David who was sent in. Tim David gave RCB exactly the finish they required as he scored 34 off just 16 balls.
The kind of batting power the side possesses, as claimed by the captain himself as “many Dhurandhars” is very apt. It was visible in the game against Rajasthan Royals as well, as they were 94 for 6 and still managed to get 200 runs on board. The kind of batting power that RCB has built across the previous season and this season has been phenomenal, unlike any other batting side we have seen.
Ahead of the next match against the Lucknow Supergiants at home, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be eyeing their 4th win of the season. They had an aberration against the Rajasthan Royals in the previous game but they look like they are back in business. The defending champions are leading the charge to defend their title.
