Washington Sundar played a silent role in Team India’s success in ending the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in a stalemate. In the series, he racked up 284 runs and seven wickets in four games. He held
his nerves in the Manchester Test and assisted India in securing a draw. Earlier, in the Lord’s game, he bagged 4/22 figures and recorded his best bowling figures in the tour. Noting Sundar’s performance, it can be said that he can emerge as the best Test all-rounder for India. Washington Sundar, who made his red-ball debut for India in January 2021, has played only 13 matches in his career.
Noting the 25-year-old’s latest outings, former India head coach Greg Chappell expects him to cement his spot in the team as a mainstay all-rounder. “I will be surprised if Washington Sundar doesn’t establish himself as the team’s premier all-rounder, who I expect to play in excess of 50 Tests," wrote Chappell in his column on ESPNcricinfo.
Greg Chappell showered praise on Mohammed Siraj
Greg Chappell, in his piece, also extolledMohammed Siraj's valiant performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. The Australian also highlighted how laboriously India speedster worked to deliver impressive performances to his side. “To bowl more than 185 overs in five Test matches over six weeks in any conditions is a physical, mental and emotional marathon. To do so with consistent intensity, while carrying the attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah for stretches, is bordering on heroic. Siraj’s final-innings spell at The Oval – culminating in nine wickets for the match – sealed the game. But it was what led to that moment that truly stood out," added the 76-year-old Aussie.
Siraj was exceptional in the red-ball competition against the English side. Appearing in five matches, he picked up 23 wickets in nine innings. The 31-year-old was the most successful bowler in the competition.
