Virat Kohli continued his rich vein of form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26, as he notched up another half century against Gujarat. He is on a run that has seen him dominate List A cricket in recent
seasons. On Friday, Kohli struck a fluent 77 off 61 balls for Delhi against Gujarat, displaying his trademark timing and control as his side posted a competitive total. It was a very difficult track and Delhi had lost the early wicket of Priyansh Arya.
Kohli started aggressively once again and managed to steady the innings despite losing wickets from other end. Virat Kohli reached his half century of just 29 balls. Earlier in the tournament just a few days back, Kohli had also produced a dominating century in his first outing, against Andhra and made a strong start to his campaign. With this latest fifty, he now has scored fifty or more in his last six innings which is remarkable.
After batting first on a tricky surface, Early signs from Delhi was cautious, with the home side settling into the innings after an initial setback. Kohli took right from ball one striking 13 fours and a six at a strike rate above 126 in this knock. Although this match was not streamed live but reporters who saw it on ground mentioned that his timing and placement often drove the scoring, and he was seen rotating the strike effectively to keep the scoreboard moving. The innings was noted for his aggressive batting.
Kohli wad dismissed stumped by a left arm spinner who bowled really well. Gujarat’s bowlers were tested throughout, but Kohli’s innings was the standout performance of the day. Rishabh Pant also played a quality knock in this innings as he scored 70 runs and Delhi have posted a total of 254 in the first innings.
In Delhi’s opening match of the season, Virat Kohli scored 131 in a chase of 298 helping his team secure a comfortable win. During that knock, Kohli also crossed the 16,000 List A run mark, becoming one of the fastest players to reach the milestone achieved in fewer innings than everyone else breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Another stat is there has only one batsman who had scored more List A hundreds than him, showing his prolific scoring across domestic and international one-day cricket.
This was highly likely Virat Kohli’s last game for Delhi in this Vijay Hazare Trophy as India contracted players have been advised to play only two games. He will then join the rest of the squad for the ODI series against New Zealand.
